Gorges Lodge Victoria Falls

Gorges Lodge Victoria Falls

Zimababwe

Overview

Gorges Lodge in Victoria Falls clings to the Zimbabwean shoulder of Batoka Gorge with it's steep cliffs just downstream of Victoria Falls. Sheer pleasure on the brink.

Gorges Lodge is uniquely positioned atop the escarpment of the Zambezi River gorge, a few miles downstream from Victoria Falls. The lodge environs comprise unspoiled riverine vegetation inhabited by numerous species of wild animals and birds.

Gorges Lodge has only 10 units, which are individual stone and thatch cottages set on the edge of the gorge over 800 feet above the Zambezi River: four double-story suites with wide sheltered balconies and six single-story suites with verandahs. The rooms and main building are tastefully appointed and cater for an international clientele.

They're decorated in cheerful colours with Oregan pine furniture and have bar fridges, mosquito nets, fans (no air-conditioning) and en-suite bathrooms. Gorges Lodge gardens are beautiful and there is a swimming pool. From this vantage point you're at eye level with black eagles, auger buzzards, gymnogenes, trumpeter hornbills, peregrine falcons and occasionally the rare taita falcon.

Gorges Lodge caters for a maximum of 20 guests.

There is no air-conditioning, but there are fans. A special feature at the lodge is an all day tiger fishing excursion to Sidinda Island Lodge, approximately 50 miles further downstream. This white water and exclusive use area provides some of Zimbabwe's best tiger fishing. The tiger fish range from 2 to 18 pounds. The policy is catch and release, unless a trophy fish is caught. Price is available on request.
